The pH Dependence of the Excitation and Emission Spectra of Umbelliferone**
Abstract
Umbelliferone is a highly fluorescent molecule. The dependence of both the excitation and emission spectra are determined as a function of pH. The excitation spectra show a shift of the excitation wavelength for maximum fluorescence above pH 7. The emission spectra show a steadily increasing fluorescence intensity as pH decreases. Spectra and their analysis is presented.
