PROJECT-BASED LEARNING: LEARNING THROUGH GUIDED CLASS PROJECTS IN AN UPPER LEVEL SPECIAL TOPICS CLASS
An undergraduate level special topics biomaterial chemistry course was structured around the project-based learning model. The semester long group project was designed for students to research and learn about the chemistry of biomaterials, and use that knowledge to design a device. Students worked in teams, and each team is chosen to simulate a project group and the teams were allowed to continuously make adjustments to their project from newly acquired knowledge from classroom lectures and instructions. The talk will discuss methods used in designing the course, implementation steps and lesson learned from the open ended survey administered at the end of the semester.
