SIMULATING BACKGAMMON WITH MATLAB**

Abstract

In recent years, there has been much success in computational efforts to simulate games such as Chess in 1996 and even more recently the game Go in 2016. Both programs defeated the greatest player in their respected games: Garry Kasparov, and Lee Sedol. However, both of these games do not have any randomness involved. Backgammon on the other hand, is a two-player game with a random dice roll, which presents itself as an interesting alternative to most games played at a professional level. Therefore, it is desirable to create a program with Backgammon to explore the unique computational solutions that may arise. We have created a working model of the game, in which choices are made randomly, and will then attempt to apply and compare various strategies.
